Industry News: Dragon Boat Festival
The Dragon Boat Festival falls on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month every year. With a history of more than 2,000 years, it is one of China’s most important traditional festivals.
Over the centuries, it has grown into a rich celebration with customs that are still practiced today:
- 🚣 Dragon boat racing — the most iconic tradition, now held in more than 80 countries worldwide
- 🍙 Eating Zongzi — glutinous rice wrapped in bamboo leaves, sweet or savory
- 🌿 Hanging mugwort and calamus — an ancient practice for repelling insects and preventing summer illness
- 🧧 Wearing sachets and five-color threads — symbols of warding off evil and praying for health
The festival reminds us that tradition lives not in museums, but in the rituals families repeat every year.
Our Team’s Activities: Cheering at the Wenruitang River
This year, YESHINE members went to Wenruitang River to watch the dragon boat race in person.
A Tradition That Rows Through Time
The dragon boat race has deep roots — originally a sacrifice to water gods, later connected to commemorating Qu Yuan, the patriotic poet of the Warring States Period. Today, it is recognized as part of China’s national intangible cultural heritage.
Our Day at the River
The river was alive with color and sound — painted dragon boats cutting through the water, drums pounding the rhythm, oarsmen pulling in perfect unison, and crowds cheering from both banks.
Here we shouted loudly and cheered for our favorite dragon boat.
It was a day of tradition, teamwork, and togetherness — the same spirit that drives our team every day at work.
